MRWA volunteers are working on the trails every week until the snow accumulates! Everyone is welcome to join the trail work sessions that are organized by our experienced trail builders.
Trail building is strenuous work that requires working in small groups to accomplish big things. It is extremely satisfying to apply your energy and imagination to produce a sustainable singletrack trail!
Trail work sessions involve a variety of tasks including clearing brush, grubbing organics, extracting stumps, moving rocks, finding dirt, filling holes, carrying lumber and banging nails! Bring water, work gloves, sturdy footwear, and clothes appropriate for the weather, bugs and for getting dirty. We have lots of tools and usually cookies, too.
Trail work events are circulated in a weekly email to our volunteers. Sign up here!
Trail work events are also posted as Facebook events on the MRWA Facebook page, and in our Google Calendar.
MRWA has hosted several group trail work events, including the Halifax Young Naturalists Club, North End Runners, J.L. Ilsley High School Leadership Class, and Dillon Consulting Ltd. These sessions are a great team-building experience, and help extend the trails for all to enjoy. If you’re interested please email mrwa.volunteers@gmail.com.
